Smarter Water Watcher®

Any kind of whistle will do for open water safety. You can optionally get a break-away lanyard to hook it onto. We prefer break-away lanyards as part of our water safety education, to reduce the possibility of choking if the lanyard gets pulled or caught on something. Remember, being a Smarter Water Watcher involves taking precautions like these.

Currently, we offer our Smarter Water Watcher® placard and whistle card in English (US) only, which are essential tools for open water safety. To ensure durability, feel free to laminate both items so they stay dry! You can also fold the whistle card in half, laminate it, and attach it to a lanyard for easy access. The placard and whistle card can be found right below this section. Stay tuned for more versions in other languages as we expand our water safety education efforts!

We have instructions on how to use the Smarter Water Watcher® program available through YouTube videos (currently, in English only). These videos focus on open water safety and are entirely in words, featuring no audio apart from music, so captions are unnecessary. This content is a part of our broader water safety education efforts.

Please remember that the Smarter Water Watcher® program is designed for these environments and should not be used in the ocean due to the numerous hazards and the vast distance between people on land and in the water. Additionally, here are two essential reminders for your open water safety: 1) do not utilize the Smarter Water Watcher® program, particularly the whistle, in areas where there is a lifeguard on duty; and 2) we assume no liability for the use or misuse of this free, voluntary program.
